Tableware has occupied a special place in our kitchens and dining rooms for thousands of years, and continues to enchant us today. Ranging from the purely functional to the fine and delicate, the evolution of domestic pots tells us much about our changing tastes and habits, and the wider art and cultural movements that have influenced their decoration and forms.
In Contemporary Tableware<?I>, maker Linda Bloomfield looks at the history of the pots on our tables, from Sung Chinese and Medieval English ware to the revival of studio pottery and the influence of Scandinavian, American and Japanese design. She goes on to examine common forms in contemporary tableware, including teapots, bowls, cups, jugs and plates, and to explain the elements of form, function and beauty in each. Lavishly illustrated with examples from contemporary studio pottery and industry, as well as making images from working potters, this book is the essential guide to modern tableware for potters, designers and buyers.

The book wasn't very well composed.I expected a history of tableware style. Evolution, trends, influences. The book is a lot of nonsequitur trivia, such as the names of designers and factories without much context. There are a lot of nice photos that usually have nothing to do with the text. Not much substance here.
The last quarter of the book was defining the anatomy of teapots and bowls and plates and so on. It's not much use to ceramists, despite what you might think based on title and description.

Contemporary Tableware Linda Bloomfield 9781574983302 Books Reviews
Photos and background of work were wonderful! Not just contemporary, but it covers how ceramics got to these points in contemporary ceramics, including the Bauhaus.
Having a strong interest in building tableware I was looking for guidance and direction. This book is more a historical review or survey of contemporary tableware with scarce comment or guidance for the studio potter.
The comments on why design elements work or what materials, glazes and processes were used are scarce. Pretty pictures though, highly recommend it for your coffee table..
Nicely done, good pictures and accurate descriptions. Interesting to see how styles are changing. Quality seems very good. Highly recommend.
